Rockaway Beach, NY – The sun shone brightly on a crisp May day as surfers gathered for yet another unforgettable Hurley outing. The event brought together a vibrant crew of surfers, spearheaded by none other than Pat Towersey. Joining the group were the acclaimed artist Tom Sachs and talented surfer Elishama Beckford, adding a unique mix of creativity and athleticism to the scene.
The outing was hosted and expertly guided by Will Skudin from Skudin Surf, ensuring a seamless and exhilarating experience for everyone involved. As an experienced surf coach and professional wave rider, Will’s leadership set the tone for a day of camaraderie and unforgettable rides.
In a nod to Sachs’ iconic design aesthetic, the crew hit the waves clad in custom “10 Bullet” wetsuits—a signature creation that added a distinct flair to the event. The wetsuits not only showcased Sachs’ commitment to functional art but also emphasized the blend of style and performance synonymous with Hurley’s surf culture. As a photographer on-site, I had the privilege of capturing the action, freezing the spirit of the event in each frame.
Hurley’s May outing at Rockaway Beach was more than just a day of surfing; it was a celebration of community, creativity, and the boundless energy of the surf lifestyle. The day stood as a testament to the power of shared passion and unforgettable moments by the sea.
Shot in Bali, Indonesia, and directed by Van Neistat in partnership with Hurley, ‘How To Learn How To Surf’ is the story of the Ten Bullets Surf Team: a group of bad surfers on the long, painful road to becoming OK surfers. With the guidance of two seasoned professionals, the Ten Bullets Team discover ten “bullets,” or insights, about the learning process itself.
