The 2026 FIFA World Cup Final wasn’t just taking place at MetLife Stadium. Just steps away, American Dream had transformed into one of the largest fan destinations in the region, bringing together thousands of supporters to experience the biggest match in soccer.
I had the opportunity to cover the day for American Dream, with full media access throughout the property. From the fan celebrations inside the mall to rooftop access overlooking MetLife Stadium, it was one of those assignments where every hour brought a new story to capture.
The epicenter of the celebration was The Rink, which had been transformed into the main viewing area for the World Cup Final.
Long before kickoff, it reached capacity. Every inch of floor space was occupied, while spectators packed the three levels of balconies above, creating a sea of jerseys, flags, and anticipation that stretched from the ground floor to the upper levels.
As The Rink filled beyond capacity, fans spilled into Court A and viewing areas throughout American Dream. Giant screens, cheering crowds, and chants echoed through the mall, turning nearly every corner into its own watch party. It wasn’t just one viewing area. The entire complex became part of the World Cup experience.
I’ve photographed concerts, sporting events, charity outings, and festivals over the years, but I’ve never seen Court A packed the way it was for the World Cup Final. Fans filled every level, leaning over railings, waving flags, singing chants, and erupting with every chance, save, and goal. Even people simply passing through the mall couldn’t help but stop and become part of the atmosphere.
Keeping the crowd energized throughout the day were hosts Lulu and her twin sister Lala. With their energetic personalities and devoted social media following, they had fans engaged from the opening festivities through the final whistle, helping create an atmosphere that felt more like a stadium than a shopping destination.
Because I had unrestricted access throughout American Dream, I was able to move beyond the main watch party and document the event from multiple perspectives.
One minute I was photographing thousands of fans singing in unison beneath the glass atrium. Minutes later I was racing to the rooftop for New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill’s press conference before hustling back inside to catch the eruption of emotion as the match unfolded. Assignments like this are why I always keep my camera close and my head on a swivel. The next great image is usually just around the corner.

As the match reached halftime, another unforgettable moment unfolded. Fireworks erupted from MetLife Stadium as part of the halftime celebration, filling the sky above the venue. From my vantage point at American Dream, I was able to frame the fireworks bursting over the stadium, creating one of my favorite images from the day and a reminder of just how massive this event truly was.
Assignments like this remind me why I love photography. While millions of people watched the match itself, my focus was on everything happening around it. The excitement, the anticipation, the celebrations, and the moments that told the larger story of what the World Cup means to the people experiencing it.
While the world’s attention was focused on MetLife Stadium, another unforgettable World Cup experience was unfolding just across the parking lot. American Dream wasn’t simply a place to watch the match. For one remarkable day, it became a gathering place where thousands of fans from around the world celebrated together, proving that the spirit of the World Cup extends far beyond the stadium itself.
