Back in September 2022, I had the opportunity to experience something pretty special, Chevrolet handed me the keys to a Bolt EUV equipped with Super Cruise, their hands-free driver assistance technology. My trip started at LAX, where I picked up the car before heading north toward Ojai for a photography job with Trybal Gatherings.

Now, I’ll be honest I’m not usually an electric vehicle guy. My heart leans toward vintage machines and high-horsepower rides, the kind of cars that rumble to life and smell like gasoline and nostalgia. So, when I got behind the wheel of the Bolt EUV, I wasn’t sure what to expect.

Right away, though, the interior space won me over. For a compact electric SUV, it offered plenty of room for all my camera gear and luggage, while still feeling comfortable and open in the cabin. Everything had its place, and I never felt cramped, a huge plus when traveling for work.

Once I hit the highway, I activated Super Cruise and that’s where the real surprise came. The system handled lane positioning, turns, and speed adjustments with impressive precision, guiding me most of the way up toward the mountains. Being able to relax a bit and take in the scenery instead of stressing over traffic was something I didn’t expect to appreciate as much as I did.

The range was another pleasant surprise. Even with a few detours and elevation changes, I made it to Ojai with plenty of charge left. The Bolt EUV proved that electric vehicles can be both capable and convenient, even for someone like me who usually prefers the rumble of an old V8.

By the end of the trip, I had a new appreciation for what Chevrolet has created. The Bolt EUV blends comfort, technology, and practicality in a way that genuinely enhances the driving experience, even for those of us who thought we’d never say that about an EV.
