On a beautiful clear day, I stopped by Pop’s Seafood Shack & Grill in Island Park to shoot a quick 30 second teaser promoting the waterfront restaurant.
There was no crowd, no live music and no summer chaos yet. Just sunshine, water and an empty Pop’s waiting for the day to begin.
That was part of what made the shoot interesting. With the restaurant empty, you could really see the space itself: the waterfront setting, the outdoor seating, the beach atmosphere and all the little details that made Pop’s feel like a summer destination.
The finished piece was a short promotional teaser, designed to capture the atmosphere of Pop’s and get people excited for what was waiting when the doors opened and the crowds arrived.
Looking back now, the video has become something more than a promotional piece. Pop’s closed permanently after the 2022 season, making this little 30 second video a snapshot of a place that was once a big part of the Island Park summer scene.
A sunny day. An empty restaurant. And Pop’s waiting for everyone to show up.
