The night before the shoot, it poured. Nonstop. I was honestly worried that the streets would still be slick the next morning — which would’ve made skating impossible and filming nearly impossible. But by sunrise, the city had dried just enough. The puddles were few, the light was soft, and I knew it was on.
I linked up with my guy Los and the Run Champs crew for another early-morning run through the Lower East Side. This time, the energy was even higher — N.O.R.E. and A$AP Ferg were joining in for the 3-mile session.
We started and ended the run at Ludlow Coffee Supply, just down the block from the iconic Katz’s Deli. The vibe there set the tone — caffeine, laughter, and that mix of grit and warmth that defines NYC mornings.
Once the sneakers hit the pavement, the pace was set fast. I was rolling alongside on my electric skateboard, filming the entire route while weaving through traffic and keeping up with the runners. Meanwhile, Rae was capturing a different angle from a rickshaw, giving us those cinematic chase shots that brought the story to life.
The main shoot was captured on my Sony A1 paired with the 24-70mm lens, giving me the flexibility to grab everything from wide city frames to tight portraits mid-stride. At the same time, we filmed all the behind-the-scenes footage using the new DJI Action 5, which handled motion, vibration, and low light way better than I expected. Between the two setups, every angle of the run came to life — from the front lines to the chaos behind the lens.
Filming a moving run like this in New York is always a challenge — tight streets, unpredictable cars, endless energy. But that’s what makes it fun. There’s a real sense of community in the Run Champs crew; it’s not just about running, it’s about connection, motion, and showing love for the city.
